Review: Let it Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle

Sparkling white snowdrifts, beautiful presents wrapped in ribbons, and multicolored lights glittering in the night through the falling snow. A Christmas Eve snowstorm transforms one small town into a romantic haven, the kind you see only in movies. Well, kinda. After all, a cold and wet hike from a stranded train through the middle of nowhere would not normally end with a delicious kiss from a charming stranger. And no one would think that a trip to the Waffle House through four feet of snow would lead to love with an old friend. Or that the way back to true love begins with a painfully early morning shift at Starbucks. Thanks to three of today’s bestselling teen authors—John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle—the magic of the holidays shines on these hilarious and charming interconnected tales of love, romance, and breathtaking kisses.

Let it Snow is one of those delightful holiday books that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside while snow softly falls outside your window. It chronicles the holiday adventures of three people during the biggest snowstorm of the century in small town Gracetown. Personally, I love stories like this where the authors manage to tie together three separate stories with a common thread. The writing style here is much like the interconnecting relationships in movies like Love Actually or Valentine's Day.

The stories are as follows: The Jubilee Express by Maureen Johnson, A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle by John Green, and The Patron Saint of Pigs by Lauren Myracle.
I have to say I enjoyed John Green's contribution the most. His writing is peppered with dry humor at the perfect moments that make you laugh out loud. Take my word on this one, A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle is hilarious.

Now, this is one of those books, you have to dive into and lose yourself in. To analyze it would be to destory the story to bits. But I do have teaser quotes, so you guys can get a taste of the cake:

I responded to this development with the kind of sophisticated language for which I am famous. "Crap crap crap crap crap crap crap stupid stupid stupid stupid stupid crap."
- John Green, A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle
One person's crazy is another person's sane, I guess.
- Maureen Johnson, The Jubilee Express
We just did an awesome job of not dying
 - John Green, A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle

I did feel, however the book started out strong with Maureen Johnson and John Green's stories, but The Patron Saint of Pigs felt like a sticky note attached as an afterthought to round out the holiday-ness of the book. The main character didn't feel as fleshed-out as the ones in the previous stories.
Despite that trifle, Let it Snow was definitely an enjoyable read.
